Welcome to Carolina Otaku Uprising, UNC’s anime club! We’ve been showing anime on campus since 1997.

We have regular meetings on most Tuesdays during each semester in a location that tends to vary from year to year. The meetings run from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, but it’s important to note that COUp is a low/no-commitment club– people often show up for only part of each meeting, watch whatever they’re interested in, and then leave. You can see a more detailed look at our schedule and how we choose the shows we watch here, but our weekly meetings usually look like this:

7:00 – 8:15: Rotates from week to week (either one episode each of three different anime, or a movie)
8:15 – 8:45: Break
8:45 – 10:00: One episode each of our three semester-long series

Additionally, some of us usually get dinner together on Franklin Street before our meetings. This is totally optional, but if you’re interested, we meet at the bottom of Lenoir at a table across from the smoothie place at 5:15 PM.

We have several club events each year, besides our regular meetings. These include a State Fair trip, a Halloween costume contest, a Valentine’s Day party, and once-a-semester trips to Round1, an arcade in Greensboro that has some untranslated imported Japanese arcade machines. We also go on club trips to anime movies playing in theaters, depending on interest.

Overall, COUp is a welcoming club for anyone who likes anime, whether you want to attend all our events or show up for a movie once in a while. We hope to see you there!
